Who We Are

Shanghai Matsuo Steel Structure Co., Ltd. was established in Shanghai in 1996 as a wholly Japanese-owned enterprise by Matsuo Bridge Co., Ltd. of Japan (“Matsuo”). In 2005, China Nanshan Development (Group) Incorporation (“CNDI”), a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, invested in the company, transforming it into a Sino-Japanese joint venture with state-owned majority ownership. In 2009, the Japanese shareholder changed from Matsuo Bridge Co., Ltd. to IHI Infrastructure Systems Co., Ltd. (“IIS”), a wholly owned subsidiary of the IHI Group.
The company is located at the “First Bend of the Huangpu River” in Fengxian District, Shanghai, across the river from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zizhu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone and the Grand NeoBay Science and Technology Innovation Center. The first station after the planned extension of Shanghai Metro Line 15 crosses the Huangpu River will be located in this area. The company currently occupies a site of 131,000 square metres and has an in-house annual production capacity of 30,000–40,000 tonnes, enabling it to undertake large-scale, high-quality overseas engineering projects.
Over the past 30 years, the company has completed the fabrication and processing of steel structures for more than 700 overseas projects. Its successfully delivered projects span the globe, with key markets including North America, Western Europe, Japan, Australia and the Middle East—regions characterised by advanced industrial development or abundant energy and mineral resources. Its business covers major sectors including petrochemicals, natural gas, power and energy, mining and metallurgy, bridges and buildings, making the company a long-standing and reliable supplier to the international engineering industry.
Supported by a professional technical team with extensive knowledge of engineering standards across multiple countries, the company is capable of accurately meeting the complex technical and compliance requirements of overseas projects. It is equipped with a comprehensive range of automated precision production and inspection equipment, ensuring the stable mass production and delivery of products to demanding specifications. The company holds ISO 9001 certification as well as a comprehensive portfolio of international certifications and qualifications under American, European, Japanese and Canadian standards, enabling access to overseas markets and compliance with project qualification requirements in different countries.
The company operates a fully traceable quality management system throughout the entire production process, with stringent quality controls covering incoming raw materials, in-process inspection and final product review. It has also established an efficient cross-border communication mechanism to provide continuous project progress updates, respond rapidly to customer requirements and effectively reduce communication costs in international cooperation.
With its strong understanding of international markets and overseas projects, proven execution capabilities, the outstanding production and quality management systems inherited from Matsuo Bridge of Japan, and the expertise and craftsmanship of its employees, Shanghai Matsuo has become a trusted long-term strategic partner to internationally renowned owners and leading engineering companies worldwide.
